We see research as key to what we do.
We would like to make a contribution to changing the way leadership is developed. We understand this is a lofty ambition, but it is an ambition we feel is worth pursuing.
Development based on evidence rather than anecdotes.
At Uncharted we want to do more than build a successful organisation. We would like to make a contribution to changing the way leadership is developed. We understand this is a lofty ambition, but it is an ambition we feel is worth pursuing. We see research, the third pillar of what we do as key to achieving this goal.
It is generally understood how to develop people horizontally, how to transfer known knowledge from teacher / expert to learner. Whilst there is variability in the effectiveness of transfer of learning, most institutions and management programs generally are effective developing people horizontally.
What is still unknown and yet to be discovered is how to design deliberately vertical leadership programs and the conditions (experiences, methodologies and experiments) that are required to develop complex thinking, as well as how to ensure the outcomes produced, can be replicated. These are the questions we seek to answer through the work we do at Uncharted.
Leadership and Leadership development is a huge industry that appears to value anecdotes more than evidence. In our own small way we would like to change this by making research a part of everything we do. We feel this is especially important in the emerging field of developing leaders for success in complexity.
